CDI continues to recommend women follow the established American Cancer Society (ACS) guidelines for screening mammography:
(POSTED NOV 19, 2009)

These guidelines are also supported by the American College of Radiology, and the Society of Breast Imaging. Those guidelines are:

Age 40 and over:
  • Annual screening mammogram
  • Annual clinical breast exam by a doctor or nurse (this exam should be done near the time of the mammogram)
  • Regular breast self-examination

Age 20 to 39:
  • Clinical breast exam by a doctor or nurse every three years
  • Regular breast self-examination

We are continuing to watch the coverage of this announcement and any ramifications, if any, for the patients we serve. Insurance providers are continuing to cover annual screening mammograms as part of their preventative care. CDI’s staff will work with you to verify coverage of your screening mammogram if you have questions.

Please contact your local center if you have questions.
