If you have never had an MRI before, you may feel a bit nervous. Relax. Our MRI’s are advanced scanners meaning that they acquire images in less time than traditional systems for a shorter exam time. Most of our scanners are high-field, "short" MRIs, so the scanner you enter is shorter than traditional scanners so that your head is out of the scanner for a number of exams.
CDI offers a variety of patient comfort tools, including headphones for music, mirrored glasses to see out of the scanner, and a two-way communication system to speak with the technologist during the exam.
Click on the links below to take you to a picture displaying how far you’ll be in the scanner. Please note, based on your specific exam, you may be positioned in the scanner either feet or head first. If you have concerns, please contact the clinic to discuss this before your appointment. If the noise of the scanner is something you have yet to experience, take a listen. MRIs make a variety of noises depending on the scan cycle. Here are a couple of typical noises you may experience during an MRI of the head. (Sound files courtesy of GE Medical.)
Keep in mind that you will be wearing headphones to block out much of the noise. If you like, bring your favorite CD to listen to during the exam.
