CDI’s Open Upright MRI has the
most advanced upright™ scanner technology currently available.
As the first of its kind in the United States, the current technology helps provide clearer images and/or a shorter exam time than most open upright™ or stand-up MRI scanners.

Open Upright MRI is now available
if you:
  • Are in need of a positional or weight-bearing study to evaluate your spine or joints for an accurate diagnosis. Your physician may request an upright scan because you can be evaluated sitting, standing, lying down or bending in the position that helps visualize different areas of the anatomy.
  • Are claustrophobic and can’t be imaged in a Short MRI scanner. The open design of the Upright scanner maximizes patient comfort, and you can also watch TV during your exam.
  • Have a health condition or body type that prevents you from receiving your MRI lying down in a high-field short scanner (500 lbs. weight capacity).
  • Are claustrophobic and prefer not to be sedated during an MRI. The open design of the scanner will minimize any anxiety.

In some cases, your exam may need to be performed on a high-field, Short MRI, which is available at all CDI centers in the Twin Cities metro. Open Upright MRI may not be the best option for you depending on the type of exam and the area of the body that needs to be evaluated. At CDI, our radiologists are committed to working with your physician to make sure the MRI you receive will provide accurate and detailed information to guide your diagnosis. In addition, as with all our imaging services, our clinical staff takes extra time to guide you through each exam to ensure comfort. We do offer IV sedation to patients who suffer from claustrophobia or are extremely anxious about their MRI exam.

If you have questions about any of our MRI services at CDI, please call 952.541.1840.
